During the 2015 general election here in the UK, one of the biggest topics was “Should Britain leave the EU?”. And one of the biggest topics within this debate is “Should 16 and 17 year olds have a vote in the EU referendum ?”
In my opinion YES, 16 and 17 year olds should be given the vote to decide if they want us to leave the EU. 16 and 17 year olds who live in Scotland got to vote in deciding if they wanted to become independent, so why shouldn’t they now?
Many 16 and 17 year olds have an opinion on the referendum, myself included.
Many people believe that Britain would not survive economically if we leave the EU. However I believe this to be not true as some of Britains best trading relationships are not within the EU.
After the general election, the Tories have promised an EU referendum by the end of 2017 during the first conservative majority government in 18 years after the Liberal Democrats in the previous coalition government stopping any attempts of a referendum.
An EU referendum was a massive part of the Conservatives manifesto, again promising a referendum by the end of 2017.
Overall I believe that 16 and 17 year olds should vote to decide if we leave the EU as in my opinion it was encourage them to vote and get to grips and maybe even becoming interested in politics and how the country is run.
